Your safety is our priority
Swapster is a community built on respect, fairness, and trust. Every member — regardless of who they are, where they're from, or what they believe — deserves to feel safe here. We have zero tolerance for behaviour that threatens that.
This page outlines what we expect from every member of the Swapster community, the tools available to keep you safe, and what happens when someone breaks the rules.
Community Standards
Swapster is for everyone. By using this platform you agree to treat every other member with dignity and respect.
We do not tolerate:
- Racism, xenophobia, or any form of racial discrimination
- Sexism, misogyny, or gender-based harassment
- Homophobia, transphobia, or discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity
- Hate speech, slurs, or dehumanising language of any kind
- Bullying, intimidation, threats, or personal abuse
- Harassment — including repeated unwanted contact
- Discrimination based on age, disability, religion, or any other protected characteristic
- Fraud, scamming, or deliberately misleading other members
- Listing stolen, counterfeit, or illegal items
- Sharing explicit, violent, or harmful content
Any member found to be engaging in the above will have their account suspended or permanently banned. In serious cases, we will report matters to the relevant authorities.
Swapping Safely
Whether you're swapping locally or arranging a swap by post, a few simple habits go a long way.
When meeting in person:
- Always meet in a public, well-lit location (a café, shopping centre, or library works well)
- Let someone you trust know where you're going and who you're meeting
- Bring a friend if you feel more comfortable doing so
- Never invite a stranger into your home, or agree to go to theirs, for a first swap
- Inspect items before completing the swap — once you've agreed, it's done
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it's okay to walk away
Keeping your account secure:
- Never share your password with anyone, including Swapster staff (we will never ask)
- Use a strong, unique password for your account
- Do not share your home address publicly in listings — only share it privately once a swap is agreed
- Keep financial transactions off the platform to the minimum necessary; be wary of anyone pressuring you to pay money
Spotting a scam:
- Be suspicious of listings that seem too good to be true
- Never send money in advance for a swap
- Be wary of members who are evasive, rush the process, or refuse to meet in person
- If a profile looks brand new and the offer looks incredible, take extra care
Report & Block
Every listing, message, and profile on Swapster has a Report button. Please use it. You help protect the whole community when you flag something that isn't right.
You can also Block any member at any time — they will not be able to contact you or see your listings.
Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We take all reports seriously and will act on them promptly. Your identity is never shared with the person you've reported.
If you are ever in immediate danger, please contact emergency services (999) before contacting us.
